Margaret Ellen “Peg” McClenahan, 96, of Centre Hall, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall, PA.

She was born June 14, 1920, in Pleasant Gap, a daughter of the late Leroy and Bella Dunklebarger Sampsel.

On August 24, 1940, she married Philip C. “Phip” McClenahan who preceded her in death on June 8, 1988.

Peg graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1938. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the Penns Valley Sales Barn for 40 years.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, sewing, and all types of puzzles, until macular degeneration took her eyesight. She had put together 2,230 quilt tops as a project for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of that church for 75 years. She enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great – grandchildren. Margaret was known for her remarkable memory until her final days.

Surviving her are two daughters: Ruth Kauffman of Spring Mills and Susan Bryant of Holiday, FL; six grandchildren: Karen (Chad) Thom, of Spring Mills, Wendy (Billy) Splain of Centre Hall, Matthew (Sherry) Sharer of Centre Hall, Jodie (Troy) Butler of Bellefonte, Erika Wilkins of Oldsmar, FL, Leanne (Jason) Stibbard of Trinity, FL; eight great – grandchildren: Rachel Hill, Madisyn and Lucas Sharer, Abigail and Emily Thom, Ty Butler, Sheldon Stibbard, and Ethan Wilkins. She is also survived by one brother, Leroy Sampsel of Annville, PA; two sisters, Nancy Miller of Cabot, PA and Joyce Warrick of Centre Hall.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ernest Kauffman.

Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Rebecca Horn officiating. Burial will be in Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, W. Church St., Centre Hall.
