Margaret M. “Honey” Soltis, 81, formerly of Clarence, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, after a long courageous battle with cancer at her daughter’s home in Stormstown, where was surrounded by her loving family. Born October 24, 1931, in Clarence, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Dudish) Murnyack
On July 18, 1953, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Clarence, she married John J. Soltis who preceded her in death August 12, 1985.
Honey graduated from Snow Shoe High School in 1949. She retired June 22, 1993 from the Bald Eagle Area School District after 17 years as the Head Cook at the Clarence Elementary School. After her retirement, she volunteered and delivered Meals on Wheels to those that were in need.
Honey was a member of Queen of Archangels Roman Catholic Parish Church and the Altar & Rosary Society in Clarence. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 813 in Clarence.
She is survived by her three children; John J. Soltis, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Wingate, Ronald E. Soltis and his wife, Carmen, of Julian and Donna M. Basalla and her husband, John, of Stormstown.
Also, surviving are her eleven grandchildren, Robert Soltis and his wife, Taten, of Pittsburgh, Stephen Soltis Jr. and his wife, Shelly, of State College, Teri Lynn Confer and her husband, Raymond, of Bellefonte, Nikki Muccio and her husband, Lew, of New Castle, Benjamin Soltis of Norfolk, VA, Cathleen Soltis of Julian, Georgian Davis, Matthew Davis and Lindsey Davis all of Pleasant Gap, John Basalla Jr. and Katelyn Basalla both of Stormstown, six great grandchildren; Stevi Lynn, Dalton and Luke Confer all of Bellefonte and Logan, Kendall and Colbie Soltis all of State College.
She is also survived by seven siblings; Robert Murnyack and his wife, Shirley, of Painesville, OH, Alex Murnyack and his wife, Sandie, and Michael Murnyack and his wife, Sandi, both of Clarence, Donald and his wife, Patricia, of State College, Flora Reese of Yarnell, Sylvia Dinges of Centennial, CO and Elizabeth (Kaycy) Bunyak and her husband, James, of Cooperstown, PA.
Along with her parents and husband, Honey was preceded in death by two children; Steven A. Soltis on April 7, 1997 & Sharon A. Davis on October 11, 2011, her sister, Martha Christman and brother George Murnyack.
She was a loving Mother, Buba, Sister, Aunt and friend. She had amazing faith in God and strength and courage to face whatever was handed to her. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. As her grandchildren and great grandchildren would say “she was the best Buba ever”. “Aunt Honey” will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
What she loved most in her life was spending time with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Bailey. She loved family get-togethers, playing poker and bingo. She was a wonderful cook and always had a warm smile to share.
The family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding care she received by her Oncologist Dr. Nilesh Patel, MD and his wonderful staff at Geisinger Scenery Park along with Dr. Victoria Devan, OD. Also her surgeons Dr. Anthony Udekwu, MD, Dr.Jennifer Simmons, MD and Dr.Robert Khoo, MD and their staff at Geisinger Hospital in Danville. They gave her hope till the end and we will be forever grateful.
Friends will be received Friday, November 30, 2012, from 2–4 and 6-8pm with a rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 11am, at 11am at Queen of Archangels Roman Catholic Parish Church in Clarence with Father Mark R. Reid officiating and assisted with Father Charlie Amershek of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial with graveside services will follow at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Clarence.
Memorial contributions to honor Honey may be made to the Centre County Law Enforcement Camp Cadet Program, which she believed was a great program for the youth. She had three grandchildren and two great-grand children attend and graduate from the program. Her granddaughter Katelyn continues to volunteer as a counselor each year.
