Marian Freed Hege, 92, of Gettysburg, formerly of State College, died Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village.

Born April 8, 1921, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Walter Curtin and Dorothy Youngman Freed. On January 30, 1943 she married Franklin B. Hege, who preceded her in death on May 24, 1975.

She is survived by three children, Ann H. Hughes and her husband, William, of Baltimore, MD, Donald F. Hege and his wife, Glenda, of Palm Bay, FL, David W. Hege and his wife, Sharon, of Centre Hall, a sister, June Wilcox, of Memphis, TN and a brother, Donald W. Freed. Also by thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One granddaughter, Jennifer Hege, and one great-grandson, Owen See, preceded her in death.

She was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport High School. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Mansfield University in 1943. She devoted herself to her home, family and friends and also helped her husband with his band school in State College from circa 1953 through 1967. In 1983, she moved to the Lutheran Retirement Village in Gettysburg where she was an active volunteer.

Marian was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in State College and St. James Lutheran Church of Gettysburg. Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. P. Stevens Lynn officiating.

Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
