Marie A. (Bennett) Houck, 96, of Hunter’s Ridge, State College died August 24, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born January 18, 1919 in Indiana County she was a daughter of the late Blaine H. and Bessie Leah (Huff) Bennett.

On September 1, 1939 she married Carl S. Houck who preceded her in death on March 11, 1993.
Marie was a graduate of Glen Campbell High School and took summer courses at Rutgers University in food management. She worked for twenty-two years at the Pennsbury School system in food management.

She was a member of Fairbrook United Methodist Church since 1977. She served as president of the United Methodist Church Women and Life Membership; she was also president of Lower Bucks County School Food Service Association, a volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center and a member of the Eastern Star, State College Chapter 388.

Marie was a gracious hostess with a sunny disposition that was known to all who met her. She enjoyed traveling and being active in her church. She was truly loved by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Carl R. (Sandra) of State College and Thomas B. (Evelyn) of Pennsylvania Furnace; six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a two sisters Rhoda Houk and Ora Scheibley and two brothers George and Leo Bennett.

Family and friends will be received 6-8 PM Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, where a funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 28; with the Reverend Gene W. McCallips officiating. Interment will follow at the Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be made to Fairbrook United Methodist Church, 4201 W. Whitehall Road, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865.
