Surrounded by her loving family, Marjorie B. Nicholas, 79, of Millheim, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Marjorie was born on July 26, 1931 in Miles Twp, a daughter of the late Charles O. and Emmeline M. Gilmore Bower. She was a 1949 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School. On October 16, 1952, Marjorie married the love of her life, Bruce R. Nicholas. Mr. Nicholas preceded Marjorie in death on December 15, 2009.

Marjorie was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Millheim. She was formerly employed at the hosiery mill, the cafeteria of the Penns Valley High School and Salem Hill Haven, where she enjoyed working with the residents. Marjorie also volunteered at the Aaronsburg Public Library, now the East Penns Valley Library. During the warm summer months, Marjorie and Bruce enjoyed traveling around the area on his trike and participating in fundraising events for the Janet Weis Children's Hospital in honor of their grandson, Dustin. In the fall and winter months they enjoyed traveling to various sporting events to watch their grandchildren participate. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family. Her passing will leave a huge void in the hearts of those who loved her so much.

Marjorie is survived by three daughters, Donna Stover (Daniel), Denise Immel (Mark Walizer) and Diane Brown (Max), all of Spring Mills; one son, Douglas Nicholas (Beth Bartley) of Millheim; 10 grandchildren, Danielle Neumann (Sean), Jeremy and Vincent Stover, Erik and Daniel Nicholas, David Immel, Darcy Houseknecht (Adam), Nicholas and Nate Brown, Jamie Tracy (Kevin), and two great-grandchildren, Regan Houseknecht and Josey Rose Tracy. In addition to her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her grandson, Dustin Stover.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 from 6 to 7 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Julia Sprenkle officiating. Marjorie will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in memory of Marjorie may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O.
