Marlene O. Schirm, 79, of State College, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

She was born April 25, 1934 in Sanborn, PA, the daughter of the late Earl Peter Phillips and Laura Kathrine Rowles Phillips.

On November 15, 1997, at the Houserville United Methodist Church, she married James Schirm, who resides at home.

Marlene graduated from Houtzdale-Woodward-Brisban High School in 1952. She worked for 19 years as Supervisor and Lead Teller for the Mellon Bank, retiring in 1998.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, James, she is survived by daughters Laurie Dunheimer (George) and Renee Hoover (Denny); a son, Michael McMurray and a stepdaughter, Pam Schirm; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Theora Smeal and Connie Marker (Ed).

Marlene was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Nelson, brothers, George Templeton, Melvin and Darryl Phillips, and a sister, Val-Jean Phillips.

Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral & Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College and Friday, May 3 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road, State College, with Reverend Edward Preston officiating. Burial will follow immediately at the Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marlene’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 South Sparks Street, State College, PA 16801.
