Obituary of Martha Ann Sarge, 85

Martha Ann Sarge, 85, of State College, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Foxdale Village. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the Foxdale staff for the wonderful care that was provided for her. Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Bellefonte, Martha was a daughter of the late Roy and Thelma Bloomquist. In 1945, she married H. David Sarge II, who preceded her in death in 2006.

Martha graduated from Bellefonte Area High School, where she was crowned Miss Bellefonte in 1941. She attended college in Michigan and then married, moved to the Philadelphia area and began her family. She raised three sons as a devoted homemaker and was always regarded as an excellent cook and baker.

Martha enjoyed knitting and created exceptional pieces for her family as well as many items lovingly donated to local nurseries. In bridge circles, Martha was an accomplished player and highly desired partner.

Martha is survived by her sons and their families: William Craig Sarge and his wife, Theresa, of Port Royal, and their children, Andrew, Jeremy, Melinda and William; H. David Sarge III and his wife, Gwendolyn, of State College, and their children, Sarah and Laura, and John Phillip Sarge and his wife, Charlene, of Warminster, and their children, John and David. Martha is also survived by one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Heirholzer; and her sisters, Jean Olsen and Audrey Harsanyi, both of Bellefonte. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Bower.

Martha donated her remains to e Hershey Medical Center for research and teaching purposes, so there will be no public visitation. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
