Martha “Marty” DeLallo Lyons of Bellefonte passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2015, at the age of 92. Marty was born July 7, 1923, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Peter A. and Floretta Hampton DeLallo.

She attended St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1942. On February 28, 1946, she married her beloved husband, G. Robert Lyons, who died on December 20, 1997. For over three years during World War II, she worked as a laboratory assistant at Titan Metal; in 1973 she graduated from the then Centre County Vo-Tech School as a dental assistant, and worked for 15 years for Dr. Frank K. Stevens and a short time for Dr. Joseph Martin. She also worked in the family business, Lyons Plumbing and Heating, for many years. She was a member of the Bellefonte Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, since 1958. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1946 and a member of the Win-One Sunday School class. She filled her life with volunteer activities. In high school she helped with the Red Cross, and when her daughters were young she served as a Brownie/Girl Scout leader. As a church member she helped with the annual bazaar and for many years was involved with the card ministry, sending countless messages of hope and condolence on behalf of the church. For over 35 years she volunteered with the Red Cross, from which she received the Frances Pasto Award, Shirley Andrews Award, and Minnie Parks Volunteer Spirit Award in recognition of her service. From 1998 through 2015 she was an RSVP volunteer receptionist at the Willowbank Building in Bellefonte.

Marty enjoyed making and sharing her special fudge. She took up painting while in her 80’s and sent hand-painted cards to family and friends for a number of years. It was her joy to help others, and she spread many kindnesses in her quiet, loving way.

Marty was devoted to her family and is survived by three daughters, Suzanne (Sue) L. Nuss and husband, Bob, of State College; Rebecca (Becky) L. Peplinski and husband, John, of Pennsylvania Furnace; and Joanna (Josy) Lyons of Bellefonte. In addition she is survived by three grandchildren, Michael S. Mauger and wife, Dana, of San Diego, CA; Bethany L. Lucas and husband, TSgt David, serving at Tyndall Air Force Base, FL; and SSgt Wesley S. Mauger and wife, Christina, serving at F. E. Warren Air Force Base, WY; and three great grandchildren, Jacob Lucas, Emma Lucas, and Robert (Robbie) Mauger. She also is survived by one sister, Barbara Glover and husband, Jerry, of Glen Mills, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John N. DeLallo and George E. DeLallo.

Marty’s daughters would like to express their profound love and gratitude to both their parents for their unwavering love and support and for being examples of kindness and patience throughout their lives. Marty died peacefully, surrounded by her family, and joins her husband in heavenly rest. Thanks are extended to the staff at Mount Nittany Medical Center for their care and concern.
