Mary E. Hackett, 75, of rural Howard passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 at her residence. She was born July 1, 1934 in Pleasant Gap a daughter of the late Willis and Mildred Shay Markel. Mary was a 1953 graduate of Bellefonte High School and was a secretary at Penn State University retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. On December 14, 1957 she married Glenn A. Hackett who preceded her in death on November 27, 1972.

Mary is survived by 2 sons Glenn A. Hackett, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Mt. Eagle and Charles W. Hackett and his wife Patricia of Milesburg, one daughter Penny M. Brower and her husband Woody of Milesburg. Four grandchildren Hank W. Brower and his wife Lindsay of A.F.B. Dover, Delaware; Glenna M. Bookmiller and her husband Jon of Milesburg; Elizabeth A. Hackett of Mt. Eagle and Cody E. Hackett of Mt. Eagle. Two great-grandchildren Cheyenne M. Bookmiller of Milesburg and Levi R. Brower of Dover, Delaware. She is also survived by a sister Esther A. Markel of Port Matilda and two special nephews Willis M. Markel and his wife Debbie of Philipsburg and John G. Markel and his wife Pam of Bellefonte.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers Robert K. Markel, Charles E. Markel and Donald P. Markel.

Friends will be received at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. with Father Neil R. Dadey officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, Pa 16823. Arrangements are under the direction of Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, Pa.
