Obituary of Mary Gummo, 94

Mary Ellen Gummo, 94, formerly of Port Matilda, died Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Centre Crest, Bellefonte. Born in Axeman, February 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George and Elsie (Shaffer) Walker. On August 1, 1942, she married Cyrus A. Gummo, who passed away on June 23, 1979.

Mary was a homemaker and gardener. She especially enjoyed fishing and playing Bingo, and also enjoyed crocheting, creating latched-hooked rugs, puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by children, James (Rea), Shirley (Stanley Richard) Gryczuk, and Patricia Scattone; and son-in-law Robert Fairchild; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. A son, R. Thomas, died September 7, 1979; and her daughter Adeline Fairchild, died October 17, 2016.

Mary is survived by a brother, Russell Walker (Shirley), and sisters Edna Louise Crock (Charles) and Florence Strouse (John); brother-in-law, Charles Anderson, sister-in-law Dorothy Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Devlin, Ida Anderson, and Adeline Lightner; and brothers Charles, James, and Ray.

There will be a public viewing held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 9-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral Services will immediately follow with Pastor Stephen Hicks officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Centre Crest for the loving care they provided to their mother while she was a resident there.
