Mary Teresa Howe, 89, a long-time resident of State College, died December 31, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born October 12, 1927 in Buffalo, New York, to the late Patrick J. Mulvey and Mary (Mulligan) Mulvey. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and the distinction of being the oldest in a family of eight children.

She attended Bryant and Stratton Business College in Buffalo, NY, and upon graduating, was employed by the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs.

On October 14, 1950, she married John Joseph Howe who preceded her in death in September 1995. Throughout her married life, her husband's employment led the family to several different locations. After their final move to State College, she began working for Wayne Bishop, M.D. This became a position she held for many years.

She is survived by three daughters, Deborah McManus of State College, Hilary (Matthew) Cross, of Cypress, Texas, and Erin Howe of Port Richey, Florida. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) McManus of Dubois, PA, Rorey (Christian) Shaffer of Spring Mills, PA, Devin McManus of State College, Liam (Aileen) McManus of Snyder, NY, Kyle (Sarah) Cross of Austin, Texas, and Kevin (Wendy) Cross, of Pflugerville, Texas. In addition there are nine greatgrandchildren, Madeleine, Quinn and Bridget Shaffer, Lily and Jack Cross, Alexis and Isaac Cross, and Kylah and Ronan McManus. Five siblings preceded her in death, brothers Thomas, Kevin, Gerald, and Charles Mulvey, and one sister, Eileen Krause. Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Conroy of Oswego, Illinois and Patricia McGee of Amherst, New York.

Mary's greatest pleasure in life was her family. She never missed a family celebration and loved being a “hostess”. She had a sharp mind, quick wit, and a talent for spreading joy among her many friends. Above all else, she loved a party. She brought a unique sparkle to life and her light will remain with all who knew her.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a future date.

Memorial contributions may be made to State College Meals on Wheels, 205 S Garner St, State College, PA 16801.
