Mary J. Shawley, 87, of rural Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at her residence. She was born March 4, 1927 in State College, the daughter of the late Earl G. and Mabel Williams Horner. On September 20, 1947 she married Ray Harold Shawley who preceded her in death on April 4, 1988.
Mary was a member of the Yarnell United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and had retired after 20 years at Corning Asahi. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, quilting, crafts, making walnut cakes and going on bus trips. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Ladies Aide, Milesburg Senior Citizens and Howard Senior Citizens. Mary attended the Widows of Wonder at Freedom Life Church.
Mary is survived by her four daughters; Lorraine J. (Russ) Watson of Bellefonte, Karen L. (Barry) Bartley of Newport, Pa. Susan K. Dann and Darla J. Flory both of Bellefonte; her two sisters, Vinerva James of Struthers, OH and Florence Myers of Girard, OH and one brother, David Horner of West Columbia, SC. Also surviving Mary are her nine grandchildren, Stacey O'Donnell, Carolyn Andrews, Cory Watson, Jaime Harter, Jennifer Hart, Kristin Dann, Erik Dann, Bryan Hockenberry, and Ashlee Flory and her seven great grandchildren, Dylan Harter, Dain Donovan, Alexis, Joselyn and Zachery Hockenberry and Rylin Dann. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Hayes Horner, Clarence Horner, and Hubert Horner and also her three sisters, Alice Rhoades, Linda Horner and Patricia Real.
Services will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Eric Gerber and Pastor Jen Daugherty officiating of Freedom Life Church in Milesburg. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in the Advent Cemetery, Boggs Twp., Centre Co., Pa.
