Matthew Frantz, 87, of Stormstown, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Nov. 1, 1922, in Port Matilda, he was the son of the late Pius Samuel and Ella Elizabeth Graham Frantz. On Sept. 21, 1961, he married Elizabeth Sarah Williams, who died Feb. 3, 2007.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, attaining the rank of Corporeal. He was a heavy equipment operator for Glenn O. Hawbaker, retiring in 1984. He was a member of VFW Post 9575 in Potters Mills and the American Legion Post 0779 in Centre Hall.
He is survived by six children, Linda Laird and her husband, Bob, of Stormstown, Jane Marie Robb, of Houserville, Fred Weaver and his wife, Ann, of Lemont, Leona Bumbarger, of State College, Hassell Frantz and his wife, Bertha, of Julian, and Dianna Prisk and her husband, Dick, of Stormstown; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by daughter, Marjorie Osman, a grandson, Bobby Laird, three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 21, at the funeral home with Rev. Tamara Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, Walker Township.
