Maura "Marina" Neri Dilkes, 83, of State College, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the Tyrone Hospital, with her husband of 52 years at her side. She had been residing at Olivia Village in Tyrone since April 2008.

Born Sept. 23, 1926, in Solsona Ilocos Norte Luzon, in the Philippines, she was a daughter of the late Eusebio and Anastacia Crisostomo Neri. She married Joseph R. Dilkes, who survives at home. Maura was a special interpreter in three languages for the U.S. Army in Japan and also a staff aid for the American National Red Cross. This is where she met her husband Joseph. They were married April 23, 1957, in Tokyo, Japan. Maura continued working throughout her husband's military career and raised their three children. Maura retired from Penn State University in 1991 after 20 years at Pattee Library.

Along with her husband, she is survived by three children, Helen Mayumi Taniuchi and her husband, Ichiro, of Tokyo, Japan, Diana Dilkes and her partner, Kevin Dzierzynski, of Nashville, Tenn., and Richard A. Dilkes of West Palm Beach, Fla., four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews located in California, New York, Texas and the Philippines.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home, with Father Robert Keffer, a cousin of Joseph Dilkes, officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
