Max F. Confer, 102, of State College, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Juniper Village at Brookline in State College. Born on August 18, 1916, in Tyrone, he was the son of the late J. Clark and Malvina Martin Confer. On October 23, 1943, in Kane, PA, he married Jeanne Turner. Jeanne passed away on January 7, 2012.
Max attended the Snow Shoe High School, Lock Haven High School and State College Area High School. He worked for Automotive Supply Co. in State College, Lewistown, and Johnstown from 1940 until retirement in 1981.

Max enlisted in the United States Army on March 20, 1942. He served over two years and received his honorable discharge on November 25, 1944. Max earned the rank of T. SGT and served in the Medical Corp and at the Convalescent Hospital. He received the Good Conduct Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Theatre Medal for his service.

Max was a member of the Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church, State College Masonic Lodge 700, Quiet Birdmen, Experimental Aviation Association, and Nittany Lion Club. He was a life member of the Pine Grove Mills VFW Post 5825, State College American Legion Post 245, State College Elks Lodge 1600.
Max was very proud that he worked his way through pilot school and received his pilot’s license at the age of 65.

Max enjoyed many things throughout his life, but his favorite pastime was going to local auto dealers and talking about new cars, also being with family and friends.

Max is survived by his two children, Clark H. Confer and his wife, Patricia, of Roper, NC and Carol L. Confer of Currituck, NC. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Alaina Anderson and her husband, Craig and Amanda Dusza and her husband, Ed and five great grandchildren, Devin, Breanna, Allie and Ryan Dusza, and Landon Anderson.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 9:30am – 10:30am at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral services will follow at 10:30am at the funeral at the funeral home with Pastor Carl Campbell officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Askey Cemetery in Snow Shoe Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church, 150 W. Pine Grove Rd., Pine Grove Mills, PA 16868 or to the Salvation Army of Centre County, 3091 Enterprise Dr., Suite 100, State College, PA 16801.
