Obituary of May Elizabeth Smoyer "Maysi" , 80

May Elizabeth "Maysi" Smoyer, 80, of Bellefonte, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. She was born in Bellefonte on Jan. 25, 1929, a daughter to the late Fount G. and Pearl E. King Smoyer.

She worked at GC Murphy, Balfurd Cleaners and retired from Centre Film Lab in 1991. She attended Bellefonte Schools and received a Certificate of Recognition from Famous Artists School.

She was a member of the Coleville Wesleyan Church where she was involved in teaching Sunday school, children's ministries and served on the Church Board. She enjoyed photography and various types of painting, most recently painting greeting cards. She was dedicated to her family, looking after her mother when her father died at an early age. She loved to be with her nieces and nephews and also took care of her two aunts. She had many friends with whom she shared her artistic and photography skills. Being the only girl in the family Maysi had to learn to climb trees but needed help from her brothers to get down.

She is survived by four brothers, William Smoyer, of Howard, Elwood Smoyer and Sterling Smoyer, of Bellefonte, and David Smoyer, of Julian. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Smoyer and Arthur Smoyer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, with the Rev. Ronald Kilgus officiating. Friends will be received Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 from Noon-1p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Advent Cemetery, Boggs Township, Centre County.
