Miriam L. May, 95, of Bellefonte, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Fairways of Brookline.
Born February 27, 1916 in Milroy, she was a daughter of the late Reuben L. and Beulah M. (Phillips) Oberholtzer.
She was married to Robert T. May, who preceded her in death.
Miriam was a 1933 graduate of Milroy High School. She was a bookkeeper working for The Viscose Co. and Dr. Eugene F. Henry both in Lewistown; Schlow’s Dress Shop in State College, Hanover Canning in Linden Hall, J.D. Patterson Co. in Boalsburg, R.E. Knepp Tractor Sales in Pleasant Gap, and Acheson Insurance Co. in State College.
Mrs. May was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star of Centre Hall, the Bellefonte VFW Auxillary and a former member of the Pleasant Gap Women’s Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol M. Vonada (Wayne); two sons, Robert A. and Jerrold S. May (Phyllis) all of Pleasant Gap; eight grandchildren, Douglas W. Vonada of Miami, FL, Gregory S. Vonada of Pleasant Gap, Karen J. Vonada of Los Angeles, CA, Tammy May of Pleasant Gap, Leslie Shively of Bellefonte, Gary Brungart (Tiffany) of Rebersburg, Christine Weston (Jason) of Naples, FL and John Eckenroth of Bellefonte; six great grandchildren, Chloe and Alexis Brungart, Hayden and Rosalie Dann, Nina and Alyssa Shively.
In addition to her husband and parents Miriam was preceded in death by her siblings, Reuben E., Robert V. Oberholtzer, Genevieve L. Firth and James L. and Claire E. Oberholtzer.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S. Main Street, Pleasant Gap, PA 16823, with the Reverend Thomas Osif officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society, 123 S. Sparks Street, State College, PA 16801.
