Nathan A. Summers, 73, of Centre Hall went home to be with his Lord on January 24, 2017 at Juniper Village at Brookline.

He was born February 4, 1943 at Pleasant Gap, a son of the late John Amos and Lavonne Weaver Summers.

On July 27, 1967 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Centre Hall he married Dorcas Pauline Fohringer who preceded him in death, October 13, 2015.

Nathan graduated from Bellefonte High School class of 1961. He served in the U. S. Army from February 7, 1964 through August 17, 1967 when he transferred to the Army Reserve where he continued to serve for several years. During his service time he earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, a Good Conduct Medal, A National Defense Service Medal, an expert rifle badge, and 1 year Safe Driving Badge with Bar.

He was employed by Corning at State College early on the assembly line, then later as a warehouse shipping and receiving clerk and truck driver. He was very active in the Union at Corning, retiring after 30 years of service.

Nathan cared deeply about others and was a proud American. One of his favorite pastimes was engaging in conversation. He had a deep appreciation for classic and antique cars, and enjoyed spending time at the beach. Serving others by being an active member of the American Legion Post 779, Centre Hall, where he was a chaplain, the VFW in Potters Mills, and the Centre Hall Lions Club, were important aspects of his life. Recently, when his health was better, he attended Colyer Brethren In Christ Church.

Surviving Mr. Summers are his two daughters, Dawn Crutchfield (Fred) of Harrisburg, and Heather Summers at home; one son Sean Summers (Jen) of State College; one granddaughter Victoria of Harrisburg; one sister Catherine Hicks (Richard) of State College; two brothers Jerry Summers (Connie) of Wingate, and David Summers (Karen) of Chesapeake, VA

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Bonnie Moyer.

Friends will be received from 4:30 – 7:00 pm, Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm at the church. A graveside service, with military honors in accord, will be held 11:00 am Saturday, January 28th at Zion Hill Cemetery, Church Hill Road, Colyer. Everyone please meet at cemetery.
