Reverend Monsignor Patrick Vincent Fleming, 87, Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Altoona, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 in Delray Beach, Fla. Msgr. Fleming was born in Altoona on July 19, 1922, the son of the late Andrew Joseph and Mary Ellen (Gibbons) Fleming.

He is survived by sisters, Mrs. Catherine Muri, of Altoona, Mrs. Winifred Boland, of Bridgeville, Pa., Mrs. Ann Brannan, of Bethel Park, Pa and Ms. Margaret Fleming, of Delray Beach, Fla. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Msgr. Fleming is preceded in death by parents, brothers, John, Msgr. Joseph H. Fleming, James & Garrett and sisters, Sarah Luddy and Mary Swope.

Msgr. Fleming graduated from Sacred Heart School, Altoona Catholic High School, from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, he received a license in Sacred Theology from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, where he also received the Basselin Scholarship.

Msgr. Fleming was ordained May 22, 1948 by Bishop Guilfoyle. In 1974, he was promoted by Pope Paul VI to Prelate of Honor with the title of Monsignor. Msgr. Fleming served as Assistant Pastor at St. Mark, Altoona, St. Thomas, Bedford, Saints Peter and Paul, Phillipsburg and Our Mother of Sorrows, Johnstown. He served as Chaplain and Faculty Member at Mt. Aloysius College, Cresson, and as Pastor of Our Lady of Victory, State College, from 1961 until 1993. Msgr. Fleming served the Diocesan Tribunal from 1959 to 1989 with twenty five years as Judicial Vicar, he served as Diocesan Consultor, Dean of the Northern Deanery and member of the PA Catholic Conference. Msgr. Fleming was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

Friends will be received Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. Friends will also be received from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. by (Most Rev.) Joseph V. Adamec, Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown. Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
