Paul A. Frantz, 91 of Pleasant Gap, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at his home. He was born May 26, 1919 in Dubois, a son of the late Edward and Mabel Henry Frantz.
On April 21, 1941, he married Eva C. Iannotti who survives at home. His death breaks a marital union of sixty nine years.
He was a graduate of Big Run High School. Following his graduation he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He left the C.C.C. when he found employment with the Bartlett Tree Surgery Company in Stanford Conn.
Mr. Frantz entered the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946, having attained the Electrician Rate of Second Class Petty Officer. He was employed as an electric motor winder at Punxsutawney Electric Company from 1946 until 1953, when he went to work at Titan Metals in Bellefonte.
His memberships included the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge # 268 in Bellefonte, the Scottish Rite of Altoona; and the Pleasant Gap Fire Company.
After his Navy discharge, he completed the three part Electrical Engineering Course from the International Correspondence School in Scranton. This led to his employment at Cerro Copper and Brass (Titan Metals), as an electrical foreman from where he retired in 1984, after thirty one years in that position. Prior to working at Cerro, he worked for various Electrical Equipment Shops in Pennsylvania and Washington State. While working in Washington State, he rewound large irrigation pump motors located on the Columbia River. In Pennsylvania he worked on various types of equipment in glass plants, steel mills, natural gas pumping stations as well as coal and clay mines.
During his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and especially enjoyed helping his neighbors.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter Jeanne Stewart and her husband Warren of Lewistown; two sons David Frantz and his wife Sheri of Warrenton, GA; and John and his wife Maria of Las Cruces, NM; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and six half-sisters and brothers, Carol, Annabelle and Dolores, James, Robert, and Russell.
Friends will be received from noon to 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow immediately at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Russell L. Sauerwein officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
