Philip Henry Houser, 74, of Bellefonte, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2010, in the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte following a lengthy illness. Born April 18, 1935, in Bellefonte he was the son of Henry W. Houser and the former Sallie Tressler. Phil is survived by his wife, the former Donna Rae Smith. They were united in marriage in the First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore on June 21, 1958. Phil graduated from Bellefonte Area High school in 1953. He graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1955 and Lycoming College in 1959 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Economics. While at Lycoming College he met and married his wife, Donna. Phil served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. at the 121st Evacuation Hospital. Phil was employed for more than 30 years by the J.K. Rishel Furniture Co. (HON) Industries in Williamsport as a contract administrator. In 1984, Phil and Donna opened the "Phil It Up Drive In" in Jersey Shore. Phil returned to his hometown of Bellefonte in 1992. Phil and Donna opened "Ruffles & Treasures" a gift and curtain shop in 1994. Phil was also employed by Weis Markets in Bellefonte for 10 years. Also surviving is a daughter, Tamera (Tammy L. Brett Bixler, and two granddaughters, Brenna and Brooke, of Zion. A private family visitation will be held at the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Memorial services will held Sunday, April 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Salona Methodist Church with Pastor Frank Hartzel officiating.
