Obituary of Phoebe L. Stathes , 71

Phoebe L. Stathes, 71, of Julian, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, in Bellefonte. She was born Jan. 28, 1938 to the late Daniel and Melda Fliesher Wellar in Julian. She and her husband, George Stathes, who survives at home, enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

he was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed being a mom, cooking, and sharing in her grandkids activities.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Gus (Maureen) Stathes, John (Penny) Stathes and Chris (Jeni) Stathes; three sisters, Vendetta Haines, Hilda Michael and Lola Young; one brother, Wilbur Wellar; six grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa), Brooke (Brad), Branden, Brittany, Christina and Alexandra; and one great-grandchild, Kendall. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one brother Dowlan Swisher and two sisters Jenny Keller and Viola Martin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tom Osif officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday Dec. 22, 2009 from noon-2 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Twp., Centre Co., PA.
