Pietro Pellicciotta, 77, of State College, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Geisinger Medical in Danville.

Born November 22, 1933, in Palata (CB) Italy, he was the son of the late Luigi Pellicciotta and Filomena Palazzo Pellicciotta who survives of State College. On September 1, 1960 in Castelmauro, Italy, he married Lucia Notaro, who survives of State College.

Along with his mother and his wife “Lucy”, he is survived by two daughters, Martina “Tina” and Lisa all of State College. Also surviving are his sisters Marianina Quaranta of Termoli, Italy, and Vicenzina “Zina” Rhoades and her husband, Lou, of State College, brother, Mario Pellicciotta and his wife, Anna, of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Gino on July 16, 1996 and his father on May 3, 1998.

He attended several hair styling schools throughout Europe before coming to America in 1961. Pietro opened his first hair salon in 1965 on Beaver Avenue, followed by another salon in 1967 on Westerly Parkway, which is still in operation, and in 1974 he opened his third salon in Calder Square.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, the State College Elks Lodge #1600, and the Sons of Italy.

Pietro was very passionate about family and friends. His smile was contagious, and everyone who walked into his life felt like they were part of his family. He enjoyed tennis, gardening and watching soccer. He made his own wine, always sharing it with friends.

Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with the Monsignor David A. Lockard officiating.

Committal will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
