Rachel M. Petkac, 19, of Port Matilda, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center. Born June 16, 1990, in Columbia, Md., she was a daughter of Michael J. and Tracey E. Petkac, of Port Matilda.
Rachel was a 2008 graduate of State College Area High School. She was attending Penn State's Shreyers Honors College, majoring in Community Education and Development. She worked for College 9 Movie Theater. Rachel was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Global Change Makers.
After completing her degree, she intended on joining the Peace Corp; her life's ambition was to help others. She followed all Pittsburgh and Penn State sports teams, and she enjoyed the outdoors and fly fishing.
Along with her parents, she is survived by her brothers, Luke M. and Mark J. Petkac, and her sister, Bridget A. Petkac, all of Port Matilda; maternal grandparents, John J. and Chispa L. Turner; and paternal grandparents, Andrew C. and Anna M. Petkac.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 31, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd., Port Matilda.
A memorial Mass will be said 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at the church, with the Rev. Philip M. Bender officiating. Burial will be in Grays Cemetery.
