Richard A. Young, 87, of Centre Hall, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at his home.

Richard was born November 12, 1922, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Homer and Gertrude Klinger Young.

On July 13, 1946, he married Margaret M. Dashem who preceded him in death January 25, 1994.

Richard graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1946 after he returned from his World War II service. He enlisted into the U. S. Army on January 23, 1942, serving with the Enlisted Detatchment1882nd Service Command Unit earning the rank of Corporal. He earned an Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one Bronze Star for his service in the Guadalcanal Campaign; and a Good Conduct Medal. He was employed at the Pennsylvania State University, from April 30, 1947 until his retirement from his position as a tool room clerk, on May 31, 1984.

Mr. Young was a member of Emmanuel Union (Lutheran) Church at Tusseyville. He enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, handcrafts, playing the organ, fellowshipping with people and especially enjoyed painting pictures, buildings, and anything he thought a color change would enhance.

Surviving him are his daughter Ann E. Young of Salt Lake City, Utah, a son Ronald R. Young and his wife Connie of Port Matilda; two grandchildren April Hassan and her husband Mohammed of State College and Todd Young and his wife Amber of Daytona Beach, FL; and one great grandson Conner Young.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Homer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a. m. July 24, 2010 at Emmanuel Union Church, Tusseyville Road, Tusseyville with the Reverend Scott Klimke officiating. Burial will be in Emmanuel Union Church Cemetery, Tusseyville. Friends will be received in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the graveside services.
