Richard E. Butler, 68, of rural Milesburg, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 27, 1941 in Bellefonte, the son of the late Samuel O, and Dorothy K. Barner Butler. On June 24, 1961, he married former Kathryn R. (Kathy) Lyons, who survives at home. He worked at Village Craft in State College and was also a self-employed Mason. He was the owner and operator of Rich's Bait Shop. He was of the Protestant Faith. Rich enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, salmon fishing, spending time with family and playing cards.

He is survived by one daughter, Patsy L. (William) Burns, of Milesburg; one son, Richard L. (Barbara) Butler, of Milesburg; five sisters, Linda Crawford, of Spring Mills, Patsy Albright, of Bellefonte, Sandy Butler, of Julian, Sue Pletcher, of Beech Creek, and Mary Caldwell, of Pleasant Gap; four brothers, Terry Butler, of Howard, Gary Butler, of Woodward, Ronald Butler, of Milesburg, and Samuel O. Butler, Jr., of Julian; three grandchildren, Andrew Burns, of Huntingdon, Joshua Butler, of Milesburg, and Ashley R. Schaffer, of Coburn; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Schaffer, of Coburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbie Ann Butler, a son Dennis Butler, and two brothers, Joseph H. Butler and Larry E. Butler.

Services will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert "Bo" King officiating. Friends will be received Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, from 6-9 p.m. at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. Burial will be in Advent Cemetery Boggs Township, Centre County. Arrangements by Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg.
