Richard H. “Dick” Bower, 83, formerly of Madisonburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born on December 27, 1930, in Aaronsburg, Dick was a son of the late Henry F. and Stella I. Hazel Bower. Dick graduated from East Penns Valley High School in 1948. He proudly served his country from 1952- 1956 in the U. S. Air Force during Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge from the military, he was employed at Cerro Metal Products in Bellefonte as a lathe operator. He retired in 1993 with 37 years of service.
Dick was a member of the American Legion Keystone Post # 444 in Millheim. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and most sporting events, especially Penn State sports. In his younger years when he was able, Dick loved fishing and hunting.
Dick is survived by his longtime companion, Bea Huey of Madisonburg with whom he resided; two sisters, Hazel Kell of York and Carol Shaffer (Tom) of Coburn; one brother, James Bower (Belva) of Loganton, and numerous nephew and nieces.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 28th from 6-8 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral will be held Saturday, March 1 at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Rev. Chris Korn officiating. Dick will be laid to rest in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Aaronsburg with full military honors provided by American Legion Keystone Post # 444 in Millheim.
