Richard S. Morgan, 89, of Centre Hall, died Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Elmcroft of State College.

He was born July 5, 1926, in New York, NY, a son of the late Sherley W. and Ethel J. (Palmer) Morgan.

Mr. Morgan earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1948, and his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1950. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. He worked at the Children’s Cancer Research Foundation and Brandeis University in Boston. He then went on to work at Penn State University as a professor of Molecular Biology.

His deepest interest was in sculpture and the outdoors, and he established Rhoneymeade Arboretum and Sculpture Garden in Potter Township.

Richard is survived by two sons, Nicholas H. (Nick) Morgan of Hudson, MA, and Caleb Morgan of Brookline, MA; one sister, Diana M. Olcott of Manchester, VT; five grandchildren, Sarah Morgan, Eric Morgan, Howard Morgan, Matthew Morgan, and Emma Wyatt; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor, his brother Arthur, and his daughter, Sheila Morgan.

A Celebration of life will be held at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Paul Mortimore officiating.
