Robert E. Rockey, 84, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, surrounded by his family, at Wynwood House in Centre Hall.
Born Feb. 18, 1926, in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Elmer E. Rockey and Ethel C. Letterman Rockey. On March 28, 1928, he married Ethel C. McCaleb Rockey, who survives at home in Bellefonte.
Upon graduation from Bellefonte High School, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Robert owned and operated Rockey's Drive Inn Restaurant and Rockey's Auto Sales on Hogan Boulevard in Mill Hall. He attended First Baptist Church in Lock Haven until returning to the Bellefonte area.
Along with his wife, he is survived by five sons, Richard E. Rockey (Anna), of Mill Hall, Gary R. Rockey (Pamela), of Lock Haven, Jonathan E. Rockey (Judy), of State College, Steven E.H. Rockey (Mary), of Maryland, and Keith N. Rockey (Lori), of Danville; and his daughter, Patricia E. Hoffman (Randolph), of Centre Hall, along with 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Richard Rockey, of Bellefonte, David Rockey, of Bellefonte, and Stanley Rockey, of Enola; seven sisters, Barbara DeFurio, of Bellefonte, Marjorie Zeleznick (John), of Bellefonte, Janet Slavin, of Georgia, Peggy Roach, of Georgia, Delores Rockey, of Bellefonte, Bonnie Martin, of Virginia, and Sandy Robinson, of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by one sister, Madelia Bierly; and three brothers, Junior Rockey, Styrl Rockey and Elmer (Jack) Rockey.
There will be a public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc, 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the funeral home, with Robert's grandson, Nathaniel S. Rockey, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery in Marion Township.
