Robert T. Broome Jr., 77, of Bellefonte, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born Aug. 20, 1932, in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Robert T. andAnna B. Casher Broome Sr. On Nov. 19, 1976, in Germany, he married Magda H. Hensel, who passed away in March 2007.

Robert attended the Lemont schools. He was of the Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous medals for his years of service. Robert was a supply sergeant for the U.S. Army until his retirement in 1984.

After his retirement, he drove buses for the State College Area School District and for Cole Transportation. Robert was a member of the BPOE Lodge 1094 of Bellefonte, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Bellefonte, Bellefonte American Legion Post 33, Bellefonte VFW Post 1600, Bellefonte Moose Lodge 206, National Association for Uniformed Services and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed attending social functions at the various clubs and looked forward to his family poker games.

Robert is survived by his children, Mary K. White (David Murray), of Pleasant Gap, Robert C. Broome (Stacey), of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael D, Broome (Elke), of Germany, Curtis B. Broome, of Bellefonte, Laura E. Dreese (Mark), of Runville, and Amy L. Long (Greg Holtzinger), of Snow Shoe; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is his dog, Samantha, and his cat, Angel.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, with an Elk memorial service at 7:45 p.m., at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe. Funeral services with full military honors with be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the funeral home, with Pastor Douglas Mellott officiating. Burial will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
