Obituary of Rose Miles, 84

Rose Quaranta Miles, 84, of Milesburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Anthony and Lena Torsell Quaranta. On Jan. 7, 1950, she married Chester Thomas Miles Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1999. She attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic School for eight years and was a 1944 graduate of Bellefonte High School. After graduation, she worked for several lawyers in Bellefonte. She also worked at Penn State University in the Correspondence Department until 1951. She retired in 1993, after having worked 26 years in the guidance office of Bald Eagle Area High School. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, where she was a past member of the Liturgy and Pastoral councils. She was active in the "Disciples in Mission" program. She also volunteered for various activities in the church and school. She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Carol), of Montoursville, and James (Tracy, of Williamsport; and one daughter, Mary Judith Miles, of Bel Air, Md. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Quaranta Swartz, of Bellefonte; two brothers, William, of Monee, Ill., and Herbert, of Sparks, Md. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Angelo. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. A vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, with the Rev. Neil Dadey officiating. Committal services will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will provide flowers and request that memorial contributions be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
