Samuel A. Bechdel, 79, of Centre Hall, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at his residence. Born January 22, 1937, in Howard, Sam was the son of the late Harry I. and Viola Heltzel Bechdel.

Sam retired from Corning in 1997, as a fork lift operator and utility worker. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. He was of the Protestant faith.

On April 21, 1996, he married the former Mary L. Chamberlin who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, LuAnn Reiter, of Altoona and Terrie Bechdel, of Portland, Ore.; three sons, Melvin D. Bechdel, of Pleasant Gap, Allen J. Bechdel, of Bellefonte, and Travis Bechdel, of Centre Hall; three step-sons, Gary L. Estright, of Centre Hall, Charles A. Estright, of Lewisburg, and Thomas W. Estright, of Centre Hall; two sisters, Ella Jane Gilham, of State College and Anna Grace (Reed) Meeker, of Gump Stump; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ervin Bechdel, Clair E. Bechdel, George Bechdel and Perry Bechdel; and a brother-in-law, Marlin Gilham.

Services will be held at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg, on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Fisher officiating. Family and friends will be received from Noon-1 p.m. time of the services. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, Centre County.
