Samuel Ellsworth “Smokey” Stover, 97, formerly of Spring Mills, passed from this life on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at The Cedars Retirement Center in Leo, IN. Born June 4, 1918 in Spring Mills, Ellsworth is a son of the late Harold and Mae Moser Stover. He graduated from Gregg Twp Vocational School and attended Penn State University where he graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. On October 25, 1940 he married Dorothy Garrett who preceded him in death on October 19, 2014.

Ellsworth was employed by BF Goodrich beginning in 1946. He was then transferred to the Fort Wayne plant in 1960 where he served as Technical Manager of tire construction until his retirement in 1982. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Mason’s. Ellsworth was an avid golfer, a duplicate bridge player and he and Dorothy loved to travel in their motor home in earlier years.

Ellsworth is survived by one daughter, Virginia Burton and her husband Charles of Tipp City, OH. In addition to his wife, Ellsworth was preceded in death by one sister, Carrie Stover.

A public graveside service will be held at the Salem U.C.C Cemetery, Rte. 45, Spring Mills on June 3, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dawn Marie Meier officiating. Condolences may also be mailed to the Stover Family, PO Box 319, Leo, IN 46765.
