Obituary of Samuel Lykens Jr., 76

Samuel C. Lykens, Jr., 76, of Port Matilda, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014, at home. The son of the late Samuel C. Lykens, Sr. and Jessi (Woodring) Lykens, he was born on May 23, 1938, in Port Matilda. He was married to Janet Sotak, who survives at home.

Sam was a graduate of Port Matilda High School and attended Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is the retired owner operator of Lykens Markets. He was a member of the St. Alban’s Anglican Church and the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows.

Sam is survived by three sons; Greg Lykens of Tyrone, Dave Lykens of Port Matilda and Chris Lykens of Bellefonte, along with three sisters; Patsy Muniz of Palmerton, Barb Friday and Kay Lykens, both of Tyrone, and Larry Lykens, also of Tyrone. Also surviving Sam are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 6-8 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. 206 N. Spring St, Bellefonte PA, with an Odd Fellows Memorial Service. A second visitation will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2014 from 10:00AM, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM, at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, 146 W. Pine Grove Rd, Pine Grove Mills, PA, 16868, with Arch Bishop Council Ned officiating. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, with full military honors.
