Susan E. Ames, the eldest child of the late Frances S. and H. Tate Ames, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s and passed peacefully on September 22, 2018 at Altoona Center for nursing in Altoona. Susan was born on May 2, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island, but spent most of her life in State College.

In her early years, Sue was a professional bowler and managed the former Center Lanes Bowling Alley in State College. In her later years she worked at Snappy’s Convenience Store. She was an avid stamp and post card collector. Sue loved to travel to the Boston area to record and research the Silsbee/Ames family tree. Most of all, Sue loved her “puppies” and provided them a safe and loving home.

Sue is survived by one sister, Kathy Ames of Lewistown; two brothers, R. Scott and Sandra L. Ames of Windsor, VA and Stephen D. Ames and Deanna Hawn Ames of Laurel, DE. Also surviving are two nephews, Chris Ames and Deanna Nevling of Virginia Beach, VA and their children, Cooper, Lexi and Michaela Ames and Robert L. and Pamela R. Ames of State College.
