Obituary of Sylvia A. Gates, 84

Sylvia A. Gates, 84 of Howard, Pa., passed away July 28, 2018 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born on May 9, 1934 in Lock Haven, Pa. She was the daugher of Thomas and Frona (Probst) Jamison.

She graduated from Lock Haven High School with the “Class of 53”.

On May 27, 1955 she married H. Richard (Dick) Gates whom she met during a “Ladies Choice” skate at Hecla Park Skating Rink.

She retired from Bald Eagle Area School District in 1999 with many years of service as a cafeteria worker at both the high school and Howard Elementary.

She was a devoted Christian and belonged to the Lighthouse Reform Church in Howard . She deeply loved her church and church family. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, picnics, puzzles, embroidery, and watching her soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Fred, DIck and John Jamison, sisters; Ruth Shellenberger, Jean Dermody, and Kaye Sibble. She is survived by her husband of 63 years who resides at home, daughters; Gail (John) Teti of Centre Hall, Vick (Jay) Hardy of Bellefonte, Lisa (Scott) Korman of State College, Jennifer (Glen) Billett of Julian and her son; Scott (Missy) Gates,of Mechanicsburg, 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 9 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Howard with Rev. Dr. Clyde Mighells officiating. Friends and family will be received from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Hublersburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse Reform Church, 133 E. Main Street, Howard, Pa. 16841.
