Terry L. Alexander, 68, of Centre Hall, died November 20, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born November 11, 1949, in Waynesboro, PA a son of the late Rhoten and Doris Scott Alexander.

On February 12, 1993, he married Victoria Devlin Toner who survives at home.

Terry graduated from Waynesboro Area High School in 1967.

During the Viet Nam War Terry served in the U. S. Army from August 15, 1968 through December 28, 1971, earning a National Defense Service Medal, a Viet Nam Service Medal, a Viet Nam Campaign Medal with 1 OS Bar, and qualified as a Sharp Shooter with an M14 and qualified as an M16 Grenade Expert.

In 2005 he retired as a Utilities Plant Operator at Rockview Corrections Facility. Earlier in life he had worked for Centre Oil and Gas in Centre Hall. Since his retirement, Terry worked part time with Michael F. Dillard Auctioneering and for McLanahan Pharmacy and Thompson Pharmacy at Centre Hall.

Terry was a 35 year member of the American Legion; serving most recently at Smith Pletcher Post 779 in Centre Hall where he served on various boards over a 10 year period. He was instrumental in starting the Military Memorabilia Showcases at Post 779. He was also a 17 year member of the Smith-Sweetwood VFW Post 9575 at Potters Mills.

Among the things he enjoyed most were music, especially guitar music, motorcycles, cars and being with daughters and granddaughter.

Surviving Mr. Alexander in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Jennifer Chandler (Nathan) of Wasilla, Alaska and Haven L. Alexander of Evergreen, CO; one son Kenneth R. Toner (Susan) of Spring Mills; one granddaughter, Ruby Chandler; two sisters, Alesia Permansu of Greencastle and Deborah Kauffman (Donald) of Waynesboro; and one brother, Larry Alexander (Cindy) of Waynesboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wellington (Comanch) Permansu.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at American Legion Post 779, 2928 Penns Valley Pike, Centre Hall, PA, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2 PM. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Salem Church, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Terry will be interred in the Alexander family plot in the Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, PA.
