Verna C. Basalla, 92, of Clarence, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011 at her home with her family at by her side. Born on December 22, 1918, in Clarence, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Amelia Kupka Seprish. On June 15, 1940, in Clarence, she married Andy Basalla who passed away on September 24, 1998.
Verna attended the Cherry Run School. She was a devoted member of the St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Clarence. She was a faithful servant of the church. She was always ready to give a lending hand in fundraising activities and weekly cleaning. She was employed in the Housekeeping Department at Penn State for many years, retiring in 1981.
Verna is survived by; her three daughters, Jeanne M. Chapman and her husband, Jack, of Conroe, TX, Janet M. Oesterling, and her husband, Paul, of Howard, and Carol A. Little of Front Royal, VA, one son, Andrew M. Basalla, and his wife, Sarah, of Clarence, three sisters, Mary Wozniak of Clarence, Martha Payne of CO, and Bernadine Burns of OH, and one brother, Frank Seprish of Snow Shoe. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by three sisters; Margaret Babula, Susanna Drapcho, and Agnes Fye, three brothers; William, Andrew, and Joseph, and one son in-law, Michael Little.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe, with Parastas at 7:15pm and Rosary at 7:45pm.
A Divine Liturgy Mass will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 10am, at the St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Clarence with Father William Rupp as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Clarence.
