Wayne L. Mitchell, 74, of Beech Creek, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home. Born on February 14, 1943, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Lloyd Mitchell and Ada Kathryn Andrews Mitchell Haagen. On February 10, 2006, in Mill Hall, he married Mary E. O’Connor who survives at home.

Wayne attended the Bald Eagle Nittany High School. He served in the United States Army from 1960 – 1963, attaining the rank of SP4. Most of his military time was spent in Germany. He worked a short time at Marmont and then in 1966 he went to work as a pipefitter at the Hammermill in Lock Haven. He retired in 2006. During this time, he also attended CPI, learning HVAC.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Beech Creek American Legion, Post #623 and a member of the Wangs Gang Hunting Club in Orviston.

Wayne is survived by his wife, his stepfather, Joseph Haagen of Beech Creek, two daughters; Marlene (Bill) Major and Brenda Fenstamaker, one son, Gregory (Shirl) Mitchell, four stepdaughters; Lisa (Craig) Strunk, Diana Askey (Scott Connelley) Sandra Askey (Jay Longo) and Jeana Askey, two brothers; Jay (Linda) Haagen and Daniel (Carol) Haagen, and one sister in-law, Linda Mitchell.

Wayne is also survived by one grandson, seven granddaughters, seven step grandsons, one step granddaughter, three step great grandsons, six step great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, David Mitchell, one step daughter, Neva Askey, and one son in-law, Bruce Fenstamaker.

Following Wayne’s wishes, there will be no service.
