William Allen Markle, 71, of Pleasant Gap, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at his home.
He was born, August 3, 1938, a son of the late Blair Raymond and Mildred May Love Markle.
June 29, 1980, he married Shirley Lou Ward who survives at home.
After attending Bellefonte High School, William joined the U. S. Army Reserves in 1956 and was called to active duty from November 13, 1957 to October 9, 1959, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap.
Earlier in his life Mr. Markle worked for Standard Register a printing company in York, PA, the Borough of State College, Firch Baking Company in Erie and worked as a bookkeeper for Markle Concrete now know as Beavertown Block Company in Pleasant Gap. More recently beginning in 1978, he worked at Corning as a wares handler and later as a fork lift operator through 1988.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Florence Warren of Pelion SC, Linda Ann Howe of Oregon, Ohio; two sons, William Allen Markle Jr. of Erie and Robert Raymond Markle of Brookfield, Ohio; a step-daughter, Rose Ann Dashem of Pleasant Gap, and two step sons, Leroy Martin Inhoof Jr. of Boalsburg and Ronald Harry Inhoof or Pleasant Gap; two sisters, Betty and Virginia; and his grandchildren and step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ellen, Eunice and Janice; and a brother Raymond.
At his request all services will be private at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to his wife Shirley L. Markle, 177 Bilger Ave., Pleasant Gap, PA 16823 to assist in paying medical expenses.
