William H. “Bill” Arnold, 91, of Centre Hall, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Born on December 13, 1926, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Lee E. Arnold and Cora E. Shoop Arnold. On January 27, 1951, he married Barbara H. Loman. Barbara passed away on December 7, 2009.

Bill was a 1944 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was enlisted in the US Army Air Corp from 1944 until 1946, earning the rank of Private First Class. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippines Independence Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal for his years of service. He then earned a BS in Forestry from Penn State University. After earning his degree, Bill worked for the U.S. Forestry Service for more than 15 years. He later worked as a Forester for Penn State University, retiring in 1988 after 18 years of service there. In addition to working at Penn State, Bill and Barbara operated Arnold’s Upholstery from 1968 to 2005.

Bill was a faithful and devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall, where he served in many capacities over the years. He most enjoyed teaching Sunday School and assisting with the youth group in many activities, including camping and canoeing trips to the Kinzua Reservoir. He volunteered with the Logos after-school program at the church and helped regularly with the Centre Hall Food Bank. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cutting firewood and woodworking.

Bill is survived by his three children: Eileen A. Stover and her husband Fred, of Woodward, Lois A. Bair and her husband Larry, of Spring Mills, and Kenneth W. Arnold and his wife Debbie, of Colyer. Also surviving are his brother Gene, of Arizona, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hoenstine.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 10:30am, at Grace United Methodist Church, 127 S. Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall, with Pastor Mark Messner officiating. Friends will be received in the Ash Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the service. Burial will be at Zion Hill Cemetery, Church Hill Road, Centre Hall.
