William H. "Bill" Holt, 81 of Howard, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Fairways in State College. Bill was born in Howard Twp., on August 6, 1929, a son of the late William Leonard and Edna Thompson Holt.

On December 1, 1950, Bill married Fay Nyman who survives at home.

He was a 1947 graduate of Howard High School and completed radio and TV school at Williamsport Technical School in 1954. Between high school and entering the army, he worked at the Howard Bank, Titan Metal on ore boats on the great lakes and Central Paving. While in radio and TV school, he worked at Piper Aircraft and Sylvania radio. He worked for Penn Tran and its successor Wintron Inc., for 41 years where he reitred as general manager. He has done consulting work for Wintron since 1998.

Bill was a member of the Lighthouse Reform Church where he served as Deacon and Elder.

He was drafted into the Army in February 1951 and attended basic training and leadership school at Fort Benning, GA. He was honorably discharged in Feb. 1953. Bill served as mayor of Howard for 8 years. He was vice-president of operations of the Howard Fire Co., president of Pleasant Valley campground. He was a member of Lock Run I.O.O.F., the Howard Boat Club, secretary and treasurer of Oak Flat Hunting Club and served a 6 year term on the Bald Eagle School Board. He was charter member of the Howard Area Lions Club where he served as secretary for many years, he was a past-president, zone chairman, and was a distinguished recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He enjoyed Bowling at the Bellefonte lanes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter; Cheryl and husband Jeffrey Tate of Howard, a son; Kurt and wife Callie Holt of Howard, a sister; Sara O'Conner (Matt Small) of Ocala, Fla, two grandchildren; Jackson and Grant Tate and close friends Gene and Barb Teaman of Blanchard.

Services will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard, Pa. with the Rev. Dr. Clyde Mighells officiating.
Burial will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard Twp. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the funeral home, with special services held by the Lions Club at 7:45 p.m.
