William E. Justice, 87, formerly of Howard, passed away peacefully at his home in Mill Hall on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Born on January 12, 1926, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Elmer W. and Laura Bryan Justice. In 1949, he married the Dorothy J. Gardner who preceded him in death in 1996.

William attended the Bellefonte High School before entering the US Navy in 1944. While in the service, he earned the rank of Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class. For his years of service, he was awarded the European Theater Ribbon (1 Star), the Pacific Theater Ribbon (1 Star) the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.
William was a Correctional Officer at the Rockview Correctional Institute, retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service. He was member of the Howard United Methodist Church, the Howard VFW, Bellefonte Elks Club, Bellefonte Moose Club, Beech Creek American Legion, the Howard Area Lions Club, and was an honorable member and founder of the Rockview Retreat Cottage.

William loved to travel and to go hunting. He was an avid Penn State Football fan. He was the Little League Umpire for many years throughout Centre and Clinton County.

William is survived by his children: Timothy W. Justice and his wife, Robin, of Wakefield, RI, Karen B. Probst and her husband, James, of Mill Hall, and Barbara L. Hastings and her husband, Paul, of Warner Robins, GA. Also surviving are his six grandchildren; Jodi L. Diehl, Marissa B. Mara, Travis W. Justice, Timothy P Hastings, Paul J. Hastings, & Joshua W. Hastings, and his three great grandchildren; Brayden J. Diehl, Finn T. Mara, and Lila H. Hastings.

William was preceded in death by his parents, wife, nine siblings; Lee, Larry, Paul, Jean, Sarah, Ann, Louise, Helen, and Dorothy. He was the last of his generation.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10am at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc, 135 W. Main St, Howard with Pastor Craig Rose officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will follow in Schenck’s Cemetery, Howard Twp.
