William L. Homan, 84, of Centre Hall, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.

He was born August 13, 1927, in Gregg Township, a son of the late William Ernest and Pearl Keller Homan.

On April 9, 1955, in Sunbury, PA, he married Helene M. Byerly who survives at home.

During his life, William overcame many obstacles and challenges to become a very loving and caring husband and father. William worked throughout his life as a dairy farmer, a road construction laborer, and eventually as a bridge construction and road maintenance foreman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. After retiring from PennDOT, he spent his hours gardening, fishing, hunting and enjoying the company of his family, friends and neighbors.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years, Helene Homan (Byerly) are two sons, Thomas Homan and his wife Anna of Stafford, VA and Timothy Homan and his wife Michelle of State College; four grandchildren, Gabriel Rodriguez, Jennifer Wenninger, Brandon Homan and Jason Rodriguez; six great grandchildren, and one sister Alverta Lindley. William is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members, all of whom with he felt enjoyment when in their company.

William was a member of Shanty Hollow hunting camp celebrating many hours of fellowship and ginger brandy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Dallas Homan.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 3 – 5 p. m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington, PA.
