Obituary of William McLaughlin

William “Bill” McLaughlin passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2016. He was born in Wilkensburg, PA, the son of Lloyd and Anna Ruth Elliott McLaughlin.

He graduated from Plum High School in 1951 and from Penn State in 1955 majoring in Agricultural Education and School Administration.

In 1955 he married the former Marilyn Gerhard. They moved to Penns Valley soon after Bill discovered what a lovely area it was while doing his student teaching.

In 1959 he and Marilyn moved to Georges Valley where later he and his family would enjoy snowmobiling, motorbike riding, raising beef cattle and slitting wood as well as many other tasks around the farm.

He worked for the Penns Valley School District first as an Ag. teacher and later as an Assistant Principal and then as a Principal.

He enjoyed working in the fields especially bailing hay and picking corn.

After his retirement he spent many hours as a volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn and daughters: Sandy Telegraphis (Nick) of Spring Mills, Melanie Jillson (Greg) Swartz Creek, MI and Cathy McLaughlin, Camp Hill, PA.

Granddaughters: Kendyl Paolini, State College, PA and Mikayla Paolini, Danville, KY., and a brother Richard McLaughlin (Peggy) Orange City FL.

As per his request, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
