William P. Sieg, III, 79, of Bellefonte, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. A son of the late William W. and Catherine J. (Rosenburgh) Sieg, he was born on November 7, 1932, in Danville. Bill married Molly (Kellerman) Sieg on May 9, 1953, who survives at home.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and attended Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Hospital Corpman. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Bill retired in 1994 from Nittany Country Club as a golf pro. In addition to Nittany Country Club he also had worked at the Clinton County Country Club, Treasure Lake Country Club, Martin County Country Club, Stuart Florida and Pompano Beach Country Club in Florida. Bill was instrumental in starting the golf program at both the Bellefonte High School and the YMCA, in Bellefonte, where he also taught golf during the winter months.
He was a life member of the P.G.A. and a member of the Central Counties Chapter of the P.G.A. He had served on the Bellefonte Borough Council, the YMCA Board of Directors and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Bill was co-owner of the Bellefonte Hardware Store.
In addition to his wife, Molly, he is survived by two daughters; Cay Hoy (Jim) of Bellefonte, Betsy Toner (Rick) of Beech Creek and one son William W. Sieg (Melissa) of Mingoville. He is also survived by one sister, Ann Catherine Sieg of Bellefonte. Six grandchildren also survive; Carrie Swanger, Jim Hoy, B.J. Sieg, Mandee Davis, Missy Mortensen, Nikki Ingram; 13 great-grandchildren and another on the way.
Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Gracia Sieg.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, from 6-8 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte PA 16823. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held also Tuesday evening. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St, Bellefonte, PA 16823 with Father Neil R. Dadey officiating. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, with full Military Honors.
