Patrick N. “Pat” Smith, 62, of Centre Hall, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 31, 2021, at home. Born on December 6, 1958, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late George R. Smith and Marian E. (Grove) Smith of Spring Mills.
Pat graduated from Penns Valley Area High School in 1976. He continued his education at Penn State University, earning his bachelor’s degree in Advertising. He was the Director of Individual Giving and Membership at WPSU until his retirement after 30+ years of service.
Pat was of the Methodist faith. He was a Past President of the Centre Hall Lions Club, served on the Centre Hall Library Board, and was also a board member of the Penns Valley Medical Center. He enjoyed reading, antiquing and playing tennis in his younger years, and shared these interests with his children whenever he could. He spent many hours tending to his flower gardens around his home and took pride in what he grew. He enjoyed attending the Grange Fair every year to visit with friends and family as well as enjoy his favorite fair food! His family and friends affectionately call him the beggar, because whether it was for his employment or the community and organizations he served; he was good at creatively asking people for funding. While Pat was in admissions, and then following his retirement, he volunteered at WPSU during TV and radio drives and other various fundraising events. He was a committed and devoted man to his family, community, and the causes he believed in. His devotion was unparalleled. He had compassion for those around him and was an overall neighborly kind of guy, with the ability to make almost anyone laugh or smile. His sense of humor was uncanny and sometimes off the wall, but that always added to his charm and character.
Along with his mother, Pat is survived by his daughter, Andrea N. Smith of Centre Hall; his son, Hayden P. Smith of Centre Hall; two brothers, Terry R. Smith and his wife, Audrey, of Centre Hall and Martin S. Smith and his wife, Diane, of Aaronsburg; his nephew, Matthew I. Smith and his wife, Kelsey, of Dumfries, VA; two great nieces, Nora and Lainey Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
