Robert L. Metz, Sr., 77 of Julian passed away at home on Friday, September 23, 2022, surrounded by his family. Robert was born on October 11, 1944 in Jackson Twp., Huntingdon Co. to the late Theodore and Thelma (Garner) Metz of Pine Grove Mills. On September 3, 1963, he married the former Venida Emel, who survives at home. Also surviving, is his son, Robert Metz, Jr. (Patty) of Lewistown and his daughter, Sherry Hartman (Jerry) of Port Matilda; his siblings Paul Metz (Judy) of Julian and Barbara Swanger (Donald) also of Julian as well as his four grandchildren, Donald Metz, Nicole Hampton (Brandon), Jessica Musser (Keegan), Kaitlyn Rogers and four great-grandchildren, Lillian Leister, Layla Musser, Maci Musser and Archer Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, David Metz, Danelle Metz and Lauren Metz.


Robert served in the US Army from 1963 – 1969 and spent a year deployed in Germany. He was self-employed as a mechanic and body repairman at his home, as well as a dump truck driver, he retired as a truck driver from HRI, Inc. in 2009, after surviving his first battle with cancer. He was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed dirt track racing, sports, feeding/watching wildlife, maintaining his property and vehicles as well as any project he could think of that kept him busy. He enjoyed hosting family gatherings in the pavilion he built along with his family for such occasions. 


A memorial service will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 201 Spring St., Milesburg on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 6:00 P. M. – 8:00 P. M. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Williams Cemetery, Huston Twp., Centre Co. where military honors will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300,Jacksonville, FL 32256.
