Surrounded by family, Rodger Allen Glunt, 82, of Bellefonte, died Sunday, June 20, 2021, Father’s Day, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, from complications that arose from dementia. Rodger’s wife, Susan Lee (Morning), predeceased him 16 years ago, on November 10, 2005. Rodger was born on August 25, 1938, the youngest son of the late Theodore Alexander and Hazel Cassel Glunt.

Rodger and his wife Susan married in 1956 and they worked hard to raise their six children, Jeffery (Amy), Tom (Kim), Terry (Susan), Tim (Kerri), Wendy Cable, and Julie Young (Jeff). Rodger, known as Pap Pap to his grandchildren, had developed a great relationship with all 17 of them. and, subsequently, his 14 great-grandchildren.

Rodger grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He had a great sense of humor; he was known for his very quick wit. Even during these last few years with dementia, he could still find humor in most anything.

Rodger worked two jobs to take care of his family. He worked at the Penn State University’s Computer Building for 30 years and at Sears in the Nittany Mall. After his retirement, he helped out in various capacities at the Hofbrau, his son Tim’s establishment. It was Rodger who created the Dad’s chicken sandwich, found on the Hofbrau menu.

In 1951, as a 12-year old, Rodger pitched a perfect game in the Altoona Little League: 18 up, 18 down, with 15 strikeouts.

He enjoyed playing catch with his kids in Altoona, and after a move in 1970, their Pleasant Gap neighborhood. He also loved to have his sons run pass patterns in the back yard, especially fade patterns to the second tree.

After his retirement, he became a member of the Nittany Country Club, where he enjoyed his mid-day rounds of golf and having lunch or dinner in the grille room.

During these past few years, his sons, daughters, and grandchildren would take him out each day to breakfast at the Waffle Shop, or to dinner at the Hofbrau.

Rodger was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore, and his sister, Barbara Kohler.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 2pm-4pm, at the Nittany Country Club at 110 Country Club Drive, Mingoville. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
