Samuel Marlin Shawver, 70, of Julian, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on January 26, 1951, in Pleasant Gap, he was the son of the late William F. and Alice Irene (Horner) Colpetzer. He was married to his beloved wife, Ruth (Lloyd) Shawver, who survives him at home after sharing 46 years together.
Samuel was a 1970 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He worked as a school bus driver for the State College Area School District for over 29 years until his retirement. Additionally, he volunteered with Alpha Fire Company.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his two children, Alice Irene Doelker (Robert) of Milesburg, and Samuel Marlin Shawver, Jr. (Tammy) of Houtzdale; three grandchildren, Joshua Tyler Demarco, Austyn James Doelker (Morgan), and Lillian Grace Doelker, and one great granddaughter, Vivian Nicole Doelker. Also surviving are two brothers, Michael F. Shawver (Amy) of Lamar, and John R. Shawver of Lusby, Maryland.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Matthew Shawver, in 1982.
Samuel enjoyed the time that he spent as a bus driver and volunteering with the fire company. He was an avid reader and enjoyed completing puzzles on the computer. He and Ruth spent countless hours just sitting on his front porch – he truly appreciated the little moments and joys in life.
There will be a public graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 11am, at Centre County Memorial Park in State College. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
